The Ghost Stories series continues with four long form tracks by Camp Of Wolves, Veryan, Laura Mars and Everyday Dust.

The artists were invited to choose a favourite ghost story to realise in music. The result is four different eldritch sonic stories that serve to haunt the listeners ears.

The Forbidden Plateau:

A legend tells how the K'omoks tribe, one of the First Nations of Vancouver Island, caught sight of a raiding party from the Quw'utsun tribe. The K'omoks people quickly sent their women, children, and elders up into the sub alpine hills in a bid to protect them from the impending battle.

After the raid a member of the tribe went to retrieve them but they had mysteriously vanished. In their place they found red lichen covering the snow and rocks.

When The Clock Strikes Two:

Clocks, especially Grandfather clocks, are often associated with supernatural and unexplained phenomena. Stories abound of haunted clocks that chime at random, or that suddenly start to work even though they have sat silent on the mantelpiece for as long as anyone cares to remember.

Antique clocks that ticked solemnly on upstairs landings have been known to stop at the exact moment their owner dies. And clocks themselves are a constant reminder of our own mortality, ticking off the seconds, minutes, and hours of our lives.

Undina’s Dream:

Undina, an elemental water spirit of Upper Rhine folklore, has an enchanting song that can be heard across the waters. With her ethereal beauty and haunting voice she allures men into the river in a bid to gain a soul. Undina can control the waters and those deemed unworthy are said to drown at her command.

Undina will only gain a soul if she falls in love with a mortal. Should her lover prove unfaithful or betray her trust in any way then they will pay with their lives.

The Bánánach:

The Bánánach were spectres from early Irish folklore that were known to haunt battlegrounds. Described as “demons of the air” they were said to scour the battlefields gathering any souls rejected by heaven. The Bánánach would hover over dying soldiers awaiting their final moments so they could carry out their ghastly task.

Last rights were said to have been hastily performed on dying soldiers in a bid to protect their souls from this fate.

An incredible album. Through textures, shifting pitches, and varied intensities, the album opens the door into the worried mind, turmoil, and hope. The soundscape is chaotic, isolated, disjointed, fear provoking, yielding a physically and psychologically frightening experience. Yet, there are feelings of hope that creep in, as the terror loosens its hold for a moment, before the dreadful burden of the ensuing battle resurfaces. The darkness is scary.
